Why I’ll be serving my Mom’s strudel at my new company’s Open House.

My mom’s strudel is absolutely scrumptious made with a perfect crust and filled with chocolate chips and nuts; pretty non-traditional for those used to the apple variety. It’s always a hit at a party, and her children and grandchildren have enjoyed it for years at family events and gatherings. “Granny’s strudel” is always a taste of home.

Most of you know that late last year the company I loved and worked for over a decade was being sold. I knew that I couldn’t stay, I was tired from the stress of an impending transition and the new company was just too large for me.  I was at a crossroads in my career.  My plan was to take some time off, recharge and then look for an opportunity.  It seemed a shame to turn in the towel since over the last five years I worked pretty tirelessly on perfecting my clinical skills and finishing my manual fellowship, something only a very, very  small percentage of PTs achieve. So, here’s where my mom comes in. “Why don’t you just open your own place? I’ll give you some money to buy your equipment.”  If you’re all grown up and you think you know yourself, sometimes an unexpected comment from someone who loves and believes in you can make all the difference.  For me, it was my mom.

I feel lucky that both my parents are still living. They came to this country as immigrants and worked hard to provide for my two brothers and me. My mom came from an old world upbringing where women stayed at home. It seems especially satisfying to her that her daughter has become a business owner and she was instrumental in its creation.  So, please join me on March 7, 2016 4:30-6:30 pm and taste a bit of my mom’s strudel, I promise it will sweeten your day.
